Close, but no hit
Here’s my list of singles with a lot of hit potential – but didn’t become a HIT in the glorious music year that was 2009.
(I define a HIT as a single in top 10 on the American Billboard Hot 100)
Katy Perry – “Thinking Of You”
This was a real chance for Katy, to showcase her more serious side. But NO. Katy can only get to number one, when she is goofy, sexy and fun. The beautiful “Thinking of You” only went to number 29 on The Billboard Hot 100. Blah.
Mary J. Blige – “The One”
This awesome track only went up to number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100. I just don’t get it! Mary J. even had Drake on it.
Jesse McCartney – “How Do You Sleep”
Was this cute single with Ludacris going to give Jesse McCartney some career growth? Not really. The song peaked at 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not bad, but still…. I think it’s a top 5 track.
Electrik Red – “So Good”, “Friend Lover”, “Drank In My Cup”
This fresh and edgy girl group, put together by super producer The Dream, released three amazing singles. None of them made any waves and their debut album was a flop. What a shame!
Amerie – “Why R U”, “Heard ‘Em All”
Ameries first release on her new label is still not a success despite the release of three singles. None of them even charted the Hot 100. Her album is good though.
Ciara – “Never Ever”
One of the best tracks off Ciaras disappointing new album is “Never Ever”. The song has a hit on the R&B chart, but only made it to 66 on the Hot 100. And she has Young Jeezy on the song. Another flop was her single “Work” that didn’t even chart on the R&B or the Hot 100, and they made an expensive video for it! Ouch.
It’s a bit sad, isn’t it?
