First. A 2 minute and 14 second long intro of power shots. An army of muscular dancers, the funeral of a heart, a colour scheme of deep blacks and greys. This is most definitely the work of a man who understands visuals: Fashion photographer extraordinaire Steven Klein.

My favourite part of the video. Lady Gaga is stripped and vulnerable during the emotional chorus. She’s lost the heavy eye make-up and the attention craving costumes. Instead she is wearing sloppy flesh toned underwear and stay ups. Even the extra hair is gone. And she is more powerful and beautiful than ever.

As if the whole writhing gay army thang wasn’t enough to make mainstream audience choke on their coffee, Gaga and Klein decided to stir things up with religious symbols throughout the video. There are crosses everywhere. Is it showcased as a burden or a blessing? That is the question.

This is so not working. First of all, is that machine guns? Secondly, Madonna called, she wants her originality back.

Time for the big finale. The song is mixed into an Alejandro-frenzy as the video delivers the last heap of tension, passion and stunning visuals.

At this point I think most of us can agree, that this is Lady Gaga’s best work ever. I noticed she had great artistic ambitions even 1,5 year ago when I interviewed her. Now she shows us, what she’s made of!

Gaga finally blossomed – from a disco-stick-toting popstar to an incredible and intelligent icon.
